A Better Way to Send Message on Messaging Apps

I see it everywhere. They do it differently and it raises thinking and a lot of questions. Why do it that way?

This post answer some of the questions:
https://qz.com/443441/stop-texting-right-now-and-learn-from-the-chinese-theres-a-better-way-to-message/

The push-to-talk I knew
So it is push-to-talk (PTT), same as the technology before the 90’s. I lived through the late 80’s and I saw the remnants of HAM radio where people talk on a channel then EB (eyeball) afterwards. Yes, the eyeball came from that era. That term was also used by the game ‘clans' of the 2000’s with their grand eye ball (GEB). The hypebes millennials now call it grand meetup.

Pros
  • Easier than typing with a difficult character set or special keyboard
  • You cannot forward voice message like a screenshot would
  • Voice can have emotion compare to message with or without emojis
Cons
  • There are no cons, it is a good feature lol

Personally though, I never listen to any voice message sent to any messaging app. I find it stupid. It should only be used for a very important situation requiring that, e.g. you hear moaning from behind a tree, or you need to conceal your tape recorder phone and doing some kind of sting operation getting evidence.

In terms of photos, this could be a picture of a girl enjoying a chat through her phone.

These now also are people chatting on their phone.

Doing it like that in a public place especially at public transportation is just not the way to go. You send a text message so people around you will not hear the conversation. In Japan they never talk on the train, which is of course what being a good commuter is about. You also want your privacy and be nuisance to others.

If you want to talk, there's one phone feature you can use. It is what a phone is invented for in the first place: call feature.

You can be holding your phone normally like this cheery fellow.

If you gonna be talking loud as well, hold your phone correctly. You are not saving voice messages on the app too. You also skip the single-channel type of communication. You get the feedback faster than waiting for the 'Seen' and return message because the person is sure to be on the other line. What if the person could not reach the phone for a quick reply? Historically, that is what the voice machine was for. Don't be too quick going back to PTT radio communication when there's the telephone communication closer to the technology at hand. You are still using a phone.

Baby Milestones

This morning I tried feeding milk to my daughter changing nipple number from her normal Avent #1 to #2. She’s 7 months old and she ought to be using #3 or #4 at her age. She finished her milk easily. Sometimes there is struggle to feed at that time in the morning.

The last time we upped her level, she choked on milk, she was 3-months old then so today kinda marked a new milestone. A kid’s milestone is big deal. It is proud and a sad moment at the same time. Experiencing it could give me tears. It draws sentimental thoughts back to previous moments like when her being too tiny and fragile for her NB size diapers and all the way back to the first tears of seeing her being born on that early December morning. Aside from getting sentimental on the past, I also think forward to the future, future milestones, of her getting more independent of us and growing bigger. I remember early on complaining on how babies are very hard to put to sleep. Somebody said the time will come when the child will do it on her own, maybe does not want to be carried or whatever. You are going to miss the times the baby wants to be hold. That is true with my wife’s nephew who is a year older and just wants to crawl, not carried around. With that in mind, we just have to enjoy every milestone there is to experience. Babies grow up fast.

The Alternative Lullabye

Thinking of a good song to make a baby go to sleep is an excellent challenge. Brahm's lullabye is a clear winner but I like to go to something different which could still work. Songs from the Wicked musical work. But I don't know much of it. I tried L'arc en Ciel's My Heart Draws a Dream but it just not good enough. Sugarfree's "Tulog Na" is also easy to hum as is Stand By Me. Could be the reason Amy Lee has a version of the song on her Lullaby album. Some of the songs of hers are also good. Thank you internet for youtube videos. The Sundays too, works fine. Harriet's voice is just so divine. Why would they stop making good music anyway.

For three months now, the best song still is Sugar Ray.

This video is a life saver. I must have played it a hundred times now.

Book of Mythology

Hello Gorgeous!

I ordered this lovely book last Black Friday and it arrived like almost three months since. I already read this back in high school - in paperback nonetheless and a hand-me-down from a neighbor but a hard bound 75th Anniversary? I just got to have it. It arrived in this trashy looking package which I totally forgot was arriving. It smells bad - like a hardbound book, lingers in the air for a long time, makes me dizzy. Totally acceptable. I wish I have time soon to read this again.

Are Babies Born in November Valentines Babies?

This is a common misunderstanding of people. February plus 9 months equals November. I learned for a fact that is not entirely true.

Nerd time:
The gestation period would be forty weeks, mothers would deliver before that. so lets count it at 39 weeks.

To be able to conceive at February 14th, lady lover must be fertile. The average menstrual cycle is 28 days, or four weeks, so two weeks after the Day 1 we get green light.

An easier math is to add 37 weeks to February 14. I run it in Python just to be sure:

>>> from pendulum import Pendulum
>>> dt = Pendulum(2018,2,14)
>>> print dt
2018-02-14T00:00:00+00:00
>>> print dt.add(weeks=37)
2018-10-31T00:00:00+00:00

We see here that 39th week drops at the end of October, so the 40th month would drop at the first week of November.

We can say to these people born after the first week of November who claim that they are Valentines babies that they are wrong. We did the math for them. They can finally sleep peacefully at night.

Spring Cleaning

Spring Cleaning arrives in this country even though we have no spring. It happens due to the coming lunar new year. Old stuff must be replaced. On my way to work, I saw this

It is a poster of Gone With The Wind, perfect condition and unused. It seems like a fan bought it, kept it for a very long time as we can see in the quality of the newspaper. It is made of wood by the way. The owner never got the chance to display this.

I would have taken it home if I could. It was heavy and big but really pretty. Back home, I could have hang it somewhere, or we could make it into a very lovely table. Too bad it was wasted.

Mayon Eruption

Browsing my twitter feed for news about the Mayon explosion, I saw these lovely photos. I don't know who to credit these, but just look at how beautiful it is.

The volcano still looks majestic even during eruption. I messaged my college classmate who lived in Albay. The volcano has erupted, we still hasn't gone there. We have thought about going there long time ago yet we haven't gone. I hope it is not too late. He's having a son in the coming months, so going on a trip anytime soon or maybe ever may be far-fetched.
