Happy New Year

This afternoon I was walking my dog with my niece when a strong wind forces a young mango fruit to fall from a tree. I was lucky enough to just be there before it rolls downhill. I brought the yummy fruit home and put in some vinegar. Hahaha.

If life throws you lemons you make lemonade.

I don't know if I really just have a few friends, I grown old or it is just not the thing anymore but there are no more greetings thru text messages anymore. Times have changed. We have wi-fi now. The text message is not that preferred compared to Skype, Facebook, Viber or other apps out there.

oth·er·world·ly

Count your blessings.
Seduce a stranger.
What's so wrong with being happy?
Kudos to those who see through sickness yeah

***
This blanket is freezing, it's been out in the hall
Where you've had me for hours
Till I'm sure what I want
But darling I want the same thing that I wanted before
So sweetheart tell me what's up, I won't stop, no way

***
Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

***
Take my photo off the wall
If it just won't sing for you.
'Cause all that's left has gone away

December 2013

Have you met with old friends lately? It is December, the time for all kinds of reunions. I don’t have really close friends that I always keep in touch with but there are these people I take time to meet every once in while, especially this time of the year. Five years ago, conversations would range from work, who’s dating who, who’s got some girl knocked up, plans to go abroad, travel plans, schooling and some news and rumors with people we know. This year, it is evident that we have aged. People have kids now. The oldest child is around 7, the kid is born even before I got a job. Conversations about Cesarian sections, parenting and the hassles of raising a daughter: "bayad-utang".  New topics now  include diseases(not just joke on venereal diseases) and medical procedures, signs of aging.

Christmas also throws the annoying question "so when are you going to get married?" Well I am engaged now. It took a while to  plan. I am not in a hurry. No pressure. I don’t want to be like the other couples I know who got married, then needs to live with the in-laws afterwards or rent an apartment. We want our ow place. I also took my time observing old married couples I know and see that I am ready. I saw how these couples fight and how the fights, raised voices does not matter afterwards. I have been in a tumultuous year with my relationship and I know I an in a good place. I love her, and her family is great. I feel they like me. When a friend who’s having a kid next month asked me that question, I got a real answer now. He even asked me about our condominium and he thought it was a nice area, and the project is good and fairly cheap. So after this, I bet questions on will we have kids.

I think right now, I am planning the New Year right. I have disappointments this year but I am getting better. Physically, I think I’m kinda fit right now compared to my fat self on some Cebu-Bohol pictures. I am also starting to lose acne. It’s about controlling stress and eating right.

History

I recently liked Ambeth Ocampo’s page on Facebook, sometime after the super typhoon. I stumbled upon it when I saw on the ticker that a friend from high school also liked him. It turns out I already have 11 friends who liked him. Yeah!!

We learned about him back in high school. He is a famous historian. That history show of Lourd’s shown in TV5 could easily be from his works.  He is also kind of the authority when it comes to Rizal and anything in the 19th century Philippines. We have read his book "Rizal Without The Overcoat" way back in 3rd year Filipino class  and it was never dull to read. I did not own the book of course, a classmate lend it to me. I had to return it several years after, around 2009 I think, really years after college because his sibling needs it.

The thing is, we are history buffs. Studying history is never boring for me; memorizing names, dates, events and places. Moreover, a lot could be learned from history in a political and social standpoint. It has to be one of my strongest subjects. My notebooks on social studies are full of notes. There was an old Philippine History book by Teodoro Agoncillo which from marking on the book shows it is from the library of Roosevelt College Marikina, Rizal. It was a really old book but I did read it when I was in 4th grade. I found public school textbooks to be insuffucient by that time.  I guess I craved for more that early.
The thing with history is it is written by people, people has biases too.Kim Jong-un wipes his uncle out of North Korea’s histoy; Daniel Tirona’s granddaughter in a Cheche Lazaro documentary denies his cowardly acts towards Bonifacio during the Tejeros convention.

Inspite of that, what’s important are the lessons we have to learn to prevent something bad to happen, we are humans and errors are meant to be made, and history will repeat itself. We need to learn on what history teaches us. Ambeth Ocampo had this column on Inquirer detailing Tacloban and the super typhoons it encountered in the past, in 1897 and 1912. Typhoons are normal and we experience it every year. It’s just that we never learn how to deal with it the right way and be prepared.

Email Addresses of my Generation

One time Angel asked me if I know anything about Boy Bastos and if that character is anything new, if that character came prior or later with Boy Pickup.  She said some of her new officemates are talking about Boy Bastos.

Well, as I remember Boy Bastos was a character from a stupid spam more than ten years ago. Very ancient that it exists in spam. It has been a while since some spam thread has hit any of my mailboxes. There's Facebook now to handle anything that needs to serve more than two persons.

Anyways, I forwarded her the old email, circa 2004 but what caught my attention was the email addresses of us receipients. Hahahaha. Almost all are yahoo users and the words used for most of the email addresses contains the following:

1.    maldita (anyone has had a maldita in a yahoo list)
2.    cute, kyut or qt depending on which is still available
3.    rinoa or squall(everybody loves Final Fantasy)
4.    A cartoon character (e.g. taz, piglet)
5.    Any character from pop culture (piper, dawson)
6.    Favorite anime character(e.g sanosuke, mitsui, akagi)
7.    A catchy adjective (sassy, isnabera)
8.    A color (blue, pink, purple)

I could post some real email addresses but that would be hilarious and stupid. When people finally became adults so were new acceptable email addresses fit for a
résumé were created.

So why were our email addresses that way? Because it was cool. When IRC chat started to be uncool and Yahoo chat were the thing, you got to have a cool enough handle and does not contain any part of your real name especially if you are a troll or just fooling around. It has to be catchy too just as the name you will use when playing Counterstrike.

Royals Snob Appeal

"Snob Appeal" is the counterpart of "Bandwagon" in the advertising world. I guess this applies higly with this song. This is "the song" of the moment in terms of radio plays or billboard charts is concerned. It is snob in a way that it is the first one I heard which denies the need for money and the whole nine yards. Kinda old by months as it just hit the local playlist lately.

Songs like "Billionaire", "Money to Blow" and all stupid rap songs which mentions everything expensive: drugs, cars, shoes, alcohol, fashion brands etc.

The last kinda snobbish song of living the glamorous life I have heard must be Thrift Shop. So the trend is here already. It is about spending "$20 in my pocket" in the thrift shop. Who needs famous brands anyway lol.

It Started with Rolled-up Sleeves

I do roll up sleeves when I wear something formal and I want to look a little casual. I am talking about dress or work shirts with long sleeves of course. I do roll them up if I want to let my hands and wrists breathe a little bit. There’s a correct way to do it and variations but I think I do it wrong and stupid most of the times. I am not a dressy kind of guy. Rolling up the sleeves has its practicality and aesthetics. Read this. An idiomatic expression "roll up your sleeve" which means prepare for hard work because literally people will roll up sleeves before some hard physical work.

What I don’t get for a very long time now is why the fuck guys roll up very short sleeves of a t-shirt. I saw a skinny college  kid once proudly wearing a shirt with the name of his university and his sleeves are rolled up. His shirt is really fit and not that loose and the sleeves are not long enough to reach his elbow, not even halfway the length of his arm. What bothers me is his sleeves are still rolled up. I don’t know why. Maybe he wants to show off his negligible muscles? But come on! The guy is fucking skinny. Rolling up sleeves of t-shirts are kinda acceptable in the military, they do that for their undershirt. There’s sense in that.

So it started with rolling up fitted shirt’s sleeves, then I saw guys roll up their short pants legs too. I don’t know if the guy I saw once in Medical City is either gay, a hipster or a douchebag. My ability to distinguish or to stereotype between those has been shattered long ago. The guy has his shirt’s sleeves rolled up too. The rolled up skinny short pants legs I don’t get. What practicality or aesthetics is it for? So again maybe, they are trying to show off their thighs haha.

Next is the rolled up jeans. Back in the days, people roll up their pants especially if the pants is not tailor-made, and really long pants so they need to roll it up. Makes sense. Sometimes they roll it inside the pants for a better look. When it is raining and you have to walk outside, you will roll up your pants too to prevent it from getting wet. Nowadays, for no real reasons people roll up their pants legs. Hipster culture I think. This time I think they want to show off their shoes, mostly boat shoes and no socks. It is not just the younger guys who do it because last Sunday I saw an old guy do it like that. I would have posted this on facebook but I know I might lose some friends over this.
I can't find a pin rolled jeans photo. ito na lang

Gentleman

I attended this soft skills training where one of the exercise is how to properly teach something with a demonstration. we were asked to demo anything. The instruction is to do it yourself first at correct speed, then show how to do it step-by-step in a slower pace then lastly do it with the audience.

It was hard to think of something cool to teach, how to tie shoelaces, a necktie advanced knot-tying, origami or the basic paper airplane, whatever. Then I thought of something awesome: teach them how to dance "Gentleman". Hahahaha. I was vocal about the plan (as a joke of course) and people were eager on the idea. Anyway I did not go with it.

There was supposed to be only two easy steps: "Magsalumbaba" and "Magpasawalang-bahala". The swaying of the hips of course is vital.

Bohol Quake

Everybody is devasted. People posted their old pictures from Bohol especially the churches. Last month we went there too, at least we saw the hills and the churches before the quake struck. My mother is supposed to go to Bohol this December but because of what happened they have to cancel the trip.

The question right now is do we have to restore these churches?  These are part of Bohol heritage and in part, a reason for tourism in the island. In my opinion, I think they should not bother. These churches are made of limestones and corrals, not that easy to restore and if they choose to, it will not be as good as the original. I think I will like the ruins better compare to anything restored which will be put up on the same location or ground zero if you will. I’ve been to the ruins of St. Paul in Macau and it is a tourist spot. In the future, I will definitely see the Cagsawa ruins in Mayon.

In my own opinion, the island of Bohol is of shaky nature, geologically speaking. The Chocolate hills is somewhere in the middle of the island and it is made up of corrals. How the hills are made up are of something crazy. I am no expert but I think that island rose up from the sea.

I have this anecdote. When we were in Cebu Ferry Terminal coming from Bohol, the cab driver asked us how is Manila doing with all the calamities especially the recent typhoons. Everyone knows flooding is the norm and Pasig river is not getting any better. He boasted that Cebu is calamity free, not that much storms, although there is a war going on in Zamboanga(somewhat off topic). A month after the earthquake happened  then the next month Yolanda passed by Visayas.

May paypal kaya mas convenient. I feel glad for what I did.

text RED <amount> to 2899(Globe) or 4143(Smart)

Backmasking

It’s Showtime’s Karylle, Jugs and Teddy had this awesome performance which blow people’s mind. It was trending for a couple of days. It is still on Youtube’s frontpage and has 2Million views. Cool indeed. They call it mind boggling. I don’t know. I guess people had forgotten backmasking, or how a song will sound like when played backward. When I see what they are doing and heard the background music of whatever it was they were singing I immediately get it. They are going to play it backwards later, and they did, nothing fancy. Spike Jonze’s video for The Pharcyde’s "Drop" and a more recent(like 10 years ago) video by Coldplay for "The Scientist" were made this way.

Anyways, kudos for the guys for doing it live on national TV.

Ivory Shampoo

These days sikat sa TV yung "Magaan ang Feeling" ad campaign and jingle featuring that "GRR" girl sa Ser Chief. Cool kasi Palmolive pala yun akala ko Rejoice which brought us the Jaboom twins catchy jingle and that with Sandara and Kim Chiu. So I guess Rejoice has stopped targetting the teen market and Palmolive has taken over.
Digging further, the 90's had a shampoo commercial that used "Ang gaan-gaan ng feeling" as a tag line. Ivory did that commerical and as we all know Ivory soap and shampoo targetted teenagers also with their mild soap and shampoo (And yes, the soap floats). The song on the commercial was sung by Geneva Cruz but originally by DV-8, an unkown group to some but I remember they also had another cheesy song "Kailanman".

Anyway, I still think of Ivory with the words "gaan ng feeling". Good times!

Dear Pera,

Sana marami ka ngayon. Gusto kitang kolektahin.
Hahaha. Galing naman ako doon. Nung medyo high school at teenage years, basta bago magkatrabaho.
Haay.. Pera, problem ka talaga.

My Brush with Depression

Mimi. They got her as a puppy last January. She got this condition called Heterochromia so her eyes have different colors so they thought that one eye is blind, I think otherwise. Heterochromia should be cool, David Bowie and Mila Kunis have it.

The dog is just inside a cage all the time, no exercise. She does not move a lot and she is a bit grumpy. I got a bit close to her that I can feed her with my hand. I know I can carry her if I wanted too. The past months, the health of the dog deteriorated. Her claws even grow really long that the way she stands and walks are bit awkward. The dog also has poor appetite.

When I heard the news that they are planning to put her to sleep last Sunday I was really depressed. She is a sweet dog and I think she was just misunderstood and not taken care well. That moment I was a bit irritable and quiet. We were going to church for the 7:30 mass and I was having difficulty with parking. It sucks big time.

During the mass there was a lot running in my head. How life is short, why not end it anyways. Lesser worries. Life has so many problems. Then I thought about Allie’s blog

I even thought about the homily, on how priests make up stories, similar to Jesus’ parables. They even use updated versions of social or political stereotypes to convey the message easily. Something struck me though, priests like doctors have bad sense of humor. I really don’t know where’s my cue to laugh. On their made up stories, sometimes I ponder on the realism of the stories: the characters and the situations and sometimes I think, well bullshit. I also don’t like political views being shared on homilies. I was really depressed during that mass. I have a lot of questions. I even see faults. I have a lot of questions with how the clergy runs the church but this time I was really depressing. I also thought of other religion but I know they have faults also. I know a lot but for some reason I feel really depressed.

Again, I remember Allie’s blog and I was hoping for that "shriveled kernel of corn moment" and I want it fast, to shake the depression right away. By and by, I remember I was under medication and a side effect includes depression. Hahahaha. I never thought I would get the depression side effect. I was kinda laughing after that.

More sad note, I found out that Mimi died. Not of Euthanasia but because of natural causes. I will miss that dog. I guess I have to be cool with the other dogs and give them exercise when I go there, just because.

Point-and-shoot SLR

Yung baby parang may lahi kasi brunette. Pangalawa, mayroon siyang camera bag. Pangatlo, naka-kit lens. Pang-apat, pinakamatindi: naka-live view.

90's Songs About Sex but We had no Idea

I’ve been trying to make a list of songs from the childhood (the ‘90s) which by my present standards are dirty but before were just plain radio friendly. There were songs that we use to sing all the times, listen to the radio very often and even dance on school events. Days before I don’t know what "making love" means. Before I even start playing cassette tapes with "Parental Advisory: Explicit Lyrics"; before I even figured out some Eraserheads songs have double meanings as well; way back before I can fully make sense of Andrew E's rap for a comeback album.

Here is my list so far:

So close – Next
This song is awesome. Released the same time "grinding" was in. There was even a show called MTV Grind. I used to listen to this song and know some of the lyrics but I have no idea it was that explicit.

"You're making it hard for me" – I did not know it was about erection

Say my name – Destiny’s Child
This is Destiny’s Child’s first hit. I saw a footage of Beyonce covering a red carpet event for the first time and celebrities walking up to her saying Say my name, say my name. So it turns out that Say my name say my name is a phrase uttered during sex. Hahaha.

Sweat – Inner Circle
A-la-la-la-la-long. A very catchy song and I believe we danced to this 3rd grade for some school event. Now I think this song is about rape.

Girl I want to make you sweat
Sweat till you can't sweat no more
And if you cry out
I'm gonna push it some, mo-o-ore

Love you down – Inoj
The version was released in 1997 and it is really catchy. So yes, it is about sex all night long

Let me love you down, even if it takes all nite.
Let me love you down, you know it's gonna be so right.

Lick It – 20 fingers ft Roula
This is about oral sex. We did not know that when this was really famous and danced by the Streetboys.

You gotta lick it
Before we kick it
You gotta get it soft and wet
So we can kick it

I’ll Make Love to you – Boyz II Men
This song was number one for a very long time and won awards. My 4th grade classmate argued that the song was dirty but I thought otherwise. Right now that guy is spot on correct.

Short Short Man – 20 Fingers feat. Gillette

This song is actually a radio friendly of  Short Dick Man. the song was a hit dance song also.

2 Become 1 – Spice Girls
"Be a little bit wiser baby, put it on, put it on"  - this is about having sex and being safe lol.

Bang to the beat of the drum - La Luna
This song is not that famous but the beat is really good. It’s sound seem timeless, similar to that song "Plastic Dreams". Bang to the beat of the drum bang, bang

Yesterday I fund this list on spot.ph of Top 10 Most Suggestive Songs. So I have more songs to ponder that some songs from my childhood are suggestive. I honestly did not think of "C’est La Vie" by B*Witched that way before.

Tabing Ilog

Hahaha.

Dawson's Creek, OK pa, yung gaya-gaya syempre uncool gaya-gaya e haha.

My Pet Cat

Yesterday, I read Jessica Zafra’s blog where she noted that her pet cat Koosi passed away. I read the blog entry and it was sad. I am no cat person but we do own pets. There were cats around but we do not really have a pet cat. Our pet dogs hate cats.

picture taken in Nov 2006
Around 2003, A stray cat my sister named "Tiffany" had kittens. One was left in our roof gutter so I kinda adopted the kitten. It is white with orange patches, classic stray cat appearance. It was a male kitten but I can’t tell. We are not cat experts. With that, I kinda give it a lot of names one of which was Crookshanks, the name Hermione’s ginger cat from the Harry Potter books. We just figure that the cat is a male because for a long time the cat is around, we never see it pregnant.

We never own the cat because of our pet dogs but the cat is around if we have something to feed him like leftovers especially fish. In time, we call the cat "Saw" because of the sound my mother used when calling the cat. She uses "Saw" instead of "Meow". The cat recognizes us calling him that through the years. We like that cat. He was good catching mice. It was just unfortunate that we can’t keep him because of the dogs.

There was a time that I thought the cat may be dead, or lost because it hasn’t showed up in a long while but one time when I returned from the States I saw a cat which looks like him. I called it with his name and it responded. I even petted the cat. After that we were able to see the cat again every once in a while. The trick with cats is just feed them. They will be around.

Now the thing with our dogs is they are good in killing big rats, and even kittens. Last week after I give them all bath one of our dogs chased the cat. I was afraid that the dog may kill the cat. It is 10 years old and maybe slow. Luckily it got away safe. After that I look for it then feed it with pork feet in the side of the road. It was cool see him stay in that spot minutes after all the food was consumed.

In a way, I am waiting for it to happen. My cat is old and he is around our place. Or dogs may kill it.

Last night my dinner included fish. With that, I went outside with my leftovers calling out the cat just like everytime I can. The cat was not there. This morning I woke up early then went jogging. When I was coming back home I saw my father walking with a neighbour. They told me that they saw my cat dying near their house. My father’s description of the cat is Kabang, the heroic dog without a jaw because my cat is slowly losing the front part of the lips exposing the cat’s teeth. They suspect that the cat lost some kind of fight, with our dogs maybe. Just maybe. I went to the place and I saw my cat. Flies and maggots are slowly going in but the cat is still breathing. I almost cry seeing him like that. I called out his name again: Saw, Saw, Saw and I think the cat did hear me but it is slowly dying and cannot respond. It was not easy. I want the suffering to end but I don’t know how. I also want to bury him at least. Our house is a few blocks away. I was thinking of carrying the cat but we have no backyard where I can bury him. I thought of getting a shovel and a pickax and start digging right there. After a few minutes my father and the neighbour who lives nearby passed by for their next lap of jogging and told me he will bury the cat by and by. He didn’t want to bury the cat alive. Fair enough for the cat. It was the last time I saw my pet Saw. I almost cried. I really miss that cat.

Update 14 April 2017

It turns out my sister has some other pics. This one must be 2008-ish. He looks old in this. I still miss my cat.

That Viral Crush Video

I saw it my newsfeed. From the thumbnail and the comment from the friend who repost I know what it is, a crush video and I knew the puppy is doomed. It sucks.  After that I see another repost and another, and another.

The whole day I keep myself from not watching the video or even any description on what took place but then as I eat supper it hits the evening news.

FUCK!!!

There, they describe what took place, and with accompanying 2 or 3-second clip after each description.

So yes, the thing went big which is odd because crush video was news a couple of years back because they caught a Filipino couple masterminds on producing these type of videos.

So what is a crush video? It first got to my attention in 2009 when I was in Dallas and this type of fetish videos hit the news. It usually involves girls on stilettos crushing an animal. I don’t know why anybody gets a sexual kick with this horrible thing. I even make a post about it on PAWS Multiply page just to make others aware.

Now after four years a video went viral. It sucks to see this monstrosity on the news but hey, at least people are now aware that an outrageous thing exist and it is considered porn. So what I think they can do next is to make people behind this pay. They can also contact their congressman to lobby House 5849, amendment to Animal Welfare Act and to increase prison terms to animal offenders. I did that before with the news of the recovered pitbulls used for dog fights. I emailed my congressman, Robbie Puno but of course I did not get any reply. Hahaha. Stupid good for nothing corrupt official. At least I did my part. I hope PDAF, pork barrel or whatever it is they get would be NOTHING soon.

Traveling with a Local in Cebu

We were in Cebu for a conference last month. It was my first time in that place and because we are presenting, we have no time whatsoever to search for any place to see, any food to eat. It is Cebu, foreigners we have talked to speak highly of tourism in that province so we got to see places.

The best way to see a new place is to travel with a local. It is also a reason why I was not really keen in researching places to go because some of the people we were with had been to Cebu before but because my batchmate in training, John who resigned 5 years ago had relocated to Cebu. Hell Yeah!!

So the first night he asked us where we want to eat, do we want to try local food. Of course we do. It was almost 10PM, nearby Ayala mall is already closed. He brought his ride so we are going places. Along the ride he kinda "tour" us a bit, pointing us to landmarks, stopping if we want to take photos. The destination is Tisa. He told us that the siomayan sa Tisa is famous. Ok, we are eating siomai. He drive us around until we reached a place where there are siomayan everywhere. Nearby is a halo-halo place and a place where we buy steamed rice. The halo-halo, which John hyped as "the best halo-halo in Cebu" we reserved for later.

There’s nothing special with the siomai but it was cheap. I spent 120 pesos for all the siomai we ate. The steamed rice is just rice with some sauce on top. It tasted like the braised beef sauce from Chowking. After that we headed to the halo-halo place, Monbi’s. It is a modern type of halo-halo and it is delicious. So delicious I had to text Angelica how good it was and to ask John to post a picture of the halo-halo in Facebook and tag all of them. We have this unresolved craving for halo-halo and a provincial trip so I believe I found a fix.

The next day, more people arrived. They saw the picture on Facebook and they want to try it too. We don’t have John to drive us to the place so we commute. The jeep went on different roads so I thought we were lost. Hahaha. I bombarded John with text messages asking for hints if we missed the place. Luckily we arrived. We ate siomai again and the hyped halo-halo. I was kinda downgrading the hype a bit so not to disappoint these people but they liked it still.

bringing in more people

The next night we had some drinks in our hotel room. Actually only them because I don't drink. John was not able to see the others who returned to their hotel rooms before midnight. Jeff and Nikko had other plans for the evening and left early. When John arrived, all the alcohol are gone and no one is volunteering to buy so I said I will go with John, he brought his SUV. Then the idea came to mind: we might as go to the halo-halo place again while it is still open. With that idea, everyone is now joining to buy more alcohol.

We hit the place three nights in a row, and it was awesome.

third night eating halo-halo

Closet?

>Kagabi.

>Commute Mode.

>Ganito "Putangina Chicks yun ah!"

>Hahaha.

On The Job

First of all, I enjoy watching this film. I saw it twice on theatres. The first time was on the second week it was shown in local cinemas and the second as last night, the third week it was shown. We were with our friends who NEVER watch art films. We were supposed to see it before but we went ahead and see it because we were fearful cinemas will cut the screenings short because of low turn out. Funny that on its third week, I think there were more people compared to the first time we watched it. It is because of reactions it got from people who saw it and blast it on social media.

It was first shown on Cannes. They say it was aiming to be an official entry for the Oscars which explains why despite low turnout, movie houses are still showing it to make the minimum requirement for theatrical run. The news say however that "Transit" gets to be nominated.

The movie was really good. Technically it was and the soundtracks used were good too. The material is really not something new but for the mainstream audience like the people who I was with last night, maybe it was. Someone suggested that it maybe because the crowd looks too bourgeoisie but no. I’ve been to screenings with conio kids before.

I am not writing on the movie alone, but on what the experience was on seeing the movie twice. If anyone wants a review that sucks big time on any levels, there’s one infamously titled frisson break I found on twitter where people keeps bashing the author’s stupid views and arrogance on the comments section. Hahahaha.

This movie has become something more to me. I see it as a litmus test on something deeper:

Mis-casting or typecasting?
People say that actors were mis-casted on their roles but I think not. They were there for a reason.
The actors on the movie were Channel 2 talents. Everyone knows that the pogi boys in the movie were groomed to be matinee idols and to headline on rom-com blockbusters but then we see them in this movie saying putangina and doing "acting" and stuff. Other actors on the film are known comics, they were only seen on sitcoms and comedy films. It was a shock for the audience to see them "act" for real. Take Joey Marquez for example. How he delivers his lines were funny to others because of course, we only associate him in comic roles. It is funny especially when he kinda mumble or stammer. The test is basically if people are ready to see them act for real.

Utterance of Putangina
The first time I heard "Putangina gawin mong manok" on Bata-bata Paano Ka Ginawa, I laugh. When I heard putangina again on a Toni Gonzaga-John Lloyd film it was funny too. So the formula was just one per movie. Hearing a lot of it in a Star Cinema movie was unheard of. People inside the theater were laughing on the excessive cursing. There is even a youtube montage for that. Putangina, of course is ordinary. Try watching Live Show by Joey Reyes.

Indie or not
They say this is indie. The material maybe but being backed by Star Cinema and seeing their known actors make it otherwise. Yes, the roles may have been given to other actors and would have given more reality to it, on how a convict is not as FilAm-looking as Gerard Anderson, or how the short guy Leo Martinez is not fit as a corrupt General(military guys has height requirement for crying out loud)
I think the rise of people’s interest on indie films has finally make it to the minds of these profit thinking producers and want to test something new. I think it is a good idea. There’s a lot of indie film festivals these days and mainstream stars are on them too. I don’t like that before but if they are fit for the roles then why not. I like how the movies finally will not be limited only to John Lloyd Cruz releases. There are other genres out there.

Vegetarian Chicharon

May isa lang ako naalala na sinabi niya sa isang post nya na  "Words and Phrases a Real Man Must Never Use"

I'M ON A DIET–This, along with "no rice," "diet Coke," "brown rice," and that crime against all logic and decency, "vegetarian chicharon."

Instagram

Theoatmeal posted this comic which pretty much sums up all repulsive posts you can see on Facebook. I just recently deactivated my account again and seeing that comic reminded me why facebook sucks, or why some of my facebook friends sucks. I could post something detestable which is like smothering their faces with the truth on why some of their posts suck and I might just get un-friended —̶ true story. Sometimes "in your face" posts get remembered even after years and they say people on the internet have short-term memory. That’s facebook.

In other news, there is instagram. My little sister kinda got tired of facebook and put all her social networking efforts on her instagram account. Apparently the followers and likes she gets there mean a lot to her. I don’t get it.

Last night when I got home I saw my laptop which should be inside of a closet where I placed it but she told me she went through my pictures folder uploaded some on her instagram account. The pictures get lots of likes she said. I was furious. Some of the pictures she uploaded are not even mine but only shared by officemates whom I made business trips with. She went through my things, that sucks. Then steal pictures without my consent, and of course whoever owns some of those uploaded pictures. It is mind boggling what self fulfillment they acquire for the likes they get. I hate instagram. It sucks that it could not be hidden on the facebook news feed. There’s also the affinity with this service on hipster culture with the pseudo artistic shit (filters or whatever they call it) they applied on pictures taken with smartphone cameras. I also hate seeing a lot of hashtags common to instagram. I just don’t fucking get it.

This much photos for to get coveted "likes"
