Halo Halo De Iloko

To begin with, I am a halo halo enthusiast. Halo halo is what I crave for after hiking. We have been looking for the best halo halo available. Our best so far is Salud’s Halo-halo in Lucban and Monbi’s in Cebu. Whenever I hear of a good halo-halo place, I would love to go and try some.  Next na yang mga nakita ko sa Cooltura sa Channel 13: Little Quiapo, Dayrit’s and Digman.

So my classmate wrote about Halo halo de Iloko, the best halo halo in town. We are heading north so might as well try it. The facebook post has the word best on it. Searching on it on Google show other blog posts claiming it the best also. We’ll see.

Going north during the papal visit was not easy. People are going north to take advantage of the long weekend and to get away from Manila traffic. Northbound traffic on the other hand as expected was heavy, and we are on a day trip due to some inconsistencies with the call time and work schedule. We arrived in San Fernando, La Union around 2PM, coming from 7AM headstart in Quezon City. We find the place fairly easy. When we got to the correct street, a lot of parked cars. We knew we found the place.

The sign says, Table of Agoo
The place looks promising. The dining area has pictures of celebrities. The tables have names of La Union towns on them. The menu ? pricey. We ordered tokwa’t baboy, papaitang kambing and okoy. Karl got his house blend iced tea which was sweetened with too much honey. Our order sucks by the way. We were hungry yet we did not enjoy eating.

Then came the Fiesta halo-halo. It has polvoron on it or whatever it is that matches the consistency of polvoron. There’s mais. Nothing special. It cost 95 pesos.  There were these conio kids on the table next to us declaring "This is the best halo halo ever". That remark made us think ― "really?"

We are so glad not to order the Buko Halo halo like these guys.

We are not coming back. Not worth it.
